About Reiki
I was initiated into the healing technique of Reiki in 2004. I am now a Reiki Master in the Usui Shiki Ryoho (Western linage) and the Usui Reiki Ryoho (Eastern linage). This means that I have learned about the development and use of the Reiki healing techniques that are used in Japan and in the West. As a Reiki Master I'm able to give healings, to initiate people and to teach Reiki.
Reiki is a profound system of healing. It uses Universal life force energy to heal and balance you. The healing always works for your higher good and is complimentary, so it can be used alongside other approaches to healing. It is a great pleasure to initiate and teach people about Reiki. I connect you to Reiki through an initiation ritual. Once you are initiated the connection to Universal life force energy stays with you for life. Reiki gives you a simple and yet profound approach to healing and connecting to your higher self.
People have many different reasons for coming to a Reiki training course, for example; they may have experienced Reiki themselves and want to learn more, they may want to offer healing to others or they may just feel drawn towards learning Reiki (a Soul calling). Learning Reiki is a profound experience and it is a pleasure for me to teach Reiki. There are three levels (or degrees) of Reiki training and they are achieved by progressive initiations and study.
Reiki I - (Shoden - in Japanese) is the entry level. It is open to anyone and you do not need any previous experience. You are Initiated into Reiki and attuned the universal life force energy. You learn how to perform a Reiki treatment on yourself and how to offer a healing to your family and friends. You will also learn about the history and theory of Reiki healing. The training is for two full days.
Reiki II (Okuden - in Japanese) - after completing this level you can offer Reiki treatments to others. You need to have completed Reiki I and used Reikito attend this course. You receive further attunements, learn three Reiki symbols and how to use them. You learn how to give distant healing. You are now able to offer Reiki healing commercially, however, in certain circumstances (for example in healthcare establishments) you may need further training. The training takes place over two full days.
What is Reiki? The Japanese word ‘Reiki’ literally translates as universal life force energy. Reiki can help restore harmony and balance to your mind, body and spirit. The hands are used to share Reiki (life force) energy with you. The energy can re-charge and re-energise you, bringing you back into balance.
This system of healing was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It is a non-invasive complementary therapy that has been taught and used in the West since the late 1900s. Eastern medicine has, for thousands of years, worked with Reiki energy, recognising its flow through all living things.
Reiki is not based on any belief, faith or suggestion. Scientific research using quantum physics is starting to help us to understand how reiki may work to benefit the individual. It has been suggested that in years to come it may be known as energy medicine based on scientifically measurable energy emitted from the healer’s hands.
What are the benefits of Reiki? Reiki can help you with illness and stress by encouraging relaxation and bringing balance to your mind, body and spirit. The benefits of Reiki are that it can give deep relaxation, promote a feeling of calmness and a peaceful sense of well-being on all levels.
Reiki encourages and supports positive personal choices, such as improving diet, taking more exercise, devoting time for rest or leisure activities, and may reduce the need for alcohol and tobacco. Engendering greater inner harmony and balance, regular Reiki treatments promote a calmer response to life’s challenges.
Reiki’s gentle energy is easily adapted to most medical conditions and may be used safely by people of all ages, including the newborn, pregnant mothers, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly. It can be used in any situation.
Being complementary, Reiki works effectively alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies, expanding treatment options. Reiki supports orthodox medicine or can be used alone but is not a replacement for traditional medication or treatments. Where is Reiki used? Reiki is being used in various settings including private practice, complementary therapy centres, GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices, cancer support groups, post-operative recovery, drug rehabilitation, prisons, HIV/AIDS centres and in the care of the elderly.
What happens during a Reiki session? A Reiki session is usually carried out with the recipient lying down or sitting, in a comfortable and peaceful environment. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki energy passes easily through all materials, including plaster casts.
I will place my hands gently on or over your body; there is no massage or manipulation. Reiki can also be given over a distance. Reiki may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all. You may see colours and quite often people doze off or sleep.
The length of Reiki sessions vary, from a taster session to a longer treatment of half an hour or an hour in duration.
I will take a short case history prior and then a treatment plan will be discussed and agreed with you. It will be reviewed as necessary. It will always be subject to your own preferences, and can be changed at any time in line with progress.
How often do you need to have a Reiki treatment? Even one single Reiki session can make a difference; however a course of regular treatments may be more effective. These may be weekly, fortnightly or less often depending on the needs of the individual. A treatment plan will be discussed with you, and reviewed as necessary. This will always be subject to your own preferences, and can be changed at any time according to progress. Safety Reiki does not take the place of conventional medicine. Always consult a GP for an acute or infectious condition or if you have an urgent course
